Ok smart a** remarks off...
Most Ford's do it by keeping the accessory delay relay energized until the door module (in your case the GEM module) sees the door open. On your 2000 it never had that feature (since most of the design was based off the 1997 f-150).. to go back and try to add it would require you to rewire a module and or fuse box... neither things that would be beneficial as you would run the risk of drawing the battery down more
Basically it's a sorry, but not gonna happen
