What kind of connection? Dial up? Wireless? or Wired?
Wireless - Turn on your wireless adapter, at the bottom right hand corner by the clock will be a little icon that looks like a computer screen. Right click it, choose "Connect to a network", refresh the networks shown, then when yours come up, click it and press "Connect"
Wired - Just plug in your ethernet cable from router to laptop, or usb cable from modem to laptop. It should just work, however, if its a modem from your ISP, then you'll need to install the software from the disc that they gave you.
