How effective are spell checkers?
For all you still arguing about the efficiency of spell chekers I was going to write a poem, and when I finished I ran it through the spell checker and here is what I got:
Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.
As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.
Eye have run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.
For the several who asked, I did not actually write that poem, it was mailed to me from a friend, and I have seen several like it around.

That was freaking awesome! I don't care who you are. LOL
I've wondered often about the spell checker thing when I read the crap on here. But there is a preview button, people are in such a hurry to "BE NUMBER ONE" they just send whatever their little fingers pecked away on the keyboard.
Source(s): Spell checked AND previewed before sending. LMAO - ra63Lv 61 decade ago
spell checkers are good at checking spelling - they don't do word usage, grammar, or punctuation. Good poem.

I LOVE it! Great spell checker you have there. :-)
Note: Some spell checker programs do have grammar, & punctuation, at least ours at home does.

I dont think they are all that great. If you were spelling knew or new and really meant to say new and mispelled it as in knew (confusing i know) they dont know that.
