Which Xbox 360 system can I play Halo 3 on?
Do I have to buy the Pro, or can I just play Halo 3 on XBOX Live with the core and a memory card. The pro is the one with the hardrive and the core is the one without the harddrive. I was just curious if I could still play XBOX Live with just the core. Thank you much!
I just want to be able to play the Halo 3 beta and I plan on upgrading later on.

There is not a whole lot of information released about Halo 3 so far but the core system is designed to play pretty much every Xbox 360 game. I think there have been some exceptions like Final Fantasy XI. But I sincerely doubt Microsoft would make its biggest franchise unable to play online on the core system.
Having said that though I seriously recommend getting a Premium or an Elite system. For Halo 3 when they inevitably release new multiplayer maps for example you will most likely need the hard drive to save them. Without the hard drive you cannot play backwards compatible Xbox games, download demos, XBLA games, or other multimedia content. (They are launching a service to watch TV shows and movies). You cannot use features like custom soundtracks either. The memory card you will need costs $40 so you will only save $60 instead of $100. The core also comes with a wired controller instead of a wireless one, doesn't have a headset for communicating while playing online and doesn't come with High Definition TV cables.
You should get an Elite if you are using a 1080p TV because it has an HDMI port and a cable for it and/or if you want the bigger hard drive for storing a lot of content.

Of course you can play it on any Xbox 360. The Core doesn't separate what you play. The only difference with the core and premium is the Hard Drive and the corded controllers. You can still play live with the core. If you're thinking about getting a 360, I recommend getting the Elite. It has a bigger hard drive so that you could save demoes, shows, and movies. It also runs better and it a lot quieter. It also has a sexy black color over it.

No, the memory card isn't large enough to download the client.
The Halo 3 client is around 1 GB I believe and the largest memory card is 512 MB.

Yea, as long as you have a memory card you should be good.
