Getting Sound To Play Through Headphones Automatically?
Ok, here's the deal. I'm running Windows XP Pro on pretty sweet computer, and I've got a pair of speakers hooked up to my computer's audio line out port. However, I also have a headphone jack in the front of the computer. I need to know how to get Windows to automatically switch the sound to play through my headphones when I plug them in to my comp. I've searched all over Windows but haven't found an option for it. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT - I should have been more thorough. I've been through Start - Control Panel - Sounds and Audio already. In the Audio tab, there's no choice for my headphones. Windows doesn't pick up that they're plugged in, which is my problem currently.

It is more than likely impossible, as e-current rates are very different for headphone and audio-out ports (see the source link), 32ohms to 1kilohm.
An easy solution would be to get an amplifier (a.k.a. external speakers) with a headphone port built-in (just about all modern ones do). From there you can connect your headphones.

Question do you have a separate line out and spkr out port on the back of your machine or is it a combined port that is set to line out with your sound card setup. The switching between the front headset jack and the rear spkr out jack is mechanical hard switching in the front jack. If you have a combined jack you should have no problem but if you have a separate spkr out jack move the cable to the spkr out jack and this should solve your problem, baring mechanical problems with your case..
