is there no such thing as elevator etiquette?
when you are waiting for an elevator, does it absolutely irritate you when people stand right in front of the doors? or when they hear the elevator coming they rush to the front to ensure they make it in, but in turn end up blocking the pople that are trying to get out? or just as bad, start walking into the elevator when the people trying to get out have not done so yet?
that is SO rude!! people act as if the elevator will leave without them if they don't make it in first. what is so hard about waiting for the people to get out? it's as if they are trying to get in before everyone so they can close the doors behind them and have the elevator to themselves.
then there are those who like to shove themselves into the elevator when there is obviously not room for them. i personally will either wait for the next one to come, or i'll take the stairs, if i see there are way too many people in there.
do you have elevator etiquette?

polite elevator behavior
1. wait for the doors to fully open before attempting to enter the elevator, unless armed terrorists are shooting at you.
2. wait for all passengers to leave the elevator, before attempting to enter, unless said armed terrorists are shooting at you.
3. allow the elderly, handicapped, or those with small children to enter the elevator first, unless those armed terrorists insist on shooting at you.
4. when entering the elevator, if you are the first person, take responsibility to man the controls and ask politely when others enter, which floor is required. if the armed terrorists attempt to board the elevator, push the close doors button repeatedly, regardless of who is trying to enter.
5. do not fart, belch or make any other unpleasant odors or noises when riding in an elevator. however, if the armed terrorists have managed to shoot you, you may bleed quietly and expire, if necessary.
6. do not allow any part of your body to touch another passenger's in an elevator, regardless of how crowded. if the armed terrorists have caused a stampede into the elevator, try to remain standing.
follow these simple rules for elevator etiquette, unless, of course, you are being pursued by armed terrorists.

Yes, let people get off the elevator before getting on, and don't stand directly in front of the door, and if you are, move out of the way so people can get off. Try and keep the door open if someone is rushing to get on. Don't stand too close to other people, if it can be helped. If the elevator looks too full, then just wait for the next one or take the stairs. I hate elevators anyway.

I can't stand rude people like that. One thing I hate more is when mothers teach their small children to run a person down to get into the elevator. Its hard enough to get around with a stroller but when you are trying to get off the elevator with a stroller then the door starts to close on you and your child while these rude people are barreling past you.
The elevator goes up and comes down and guess what it will go up again I promise. ........

yes, I always believe that you should allow people on the elevator to get out first. I will stand way back and wait, before going onto the elevator. It bugs me too, that there are so many that have not one bit of common sense. Some are just not raised right.

I'm with you Jack! I'm lucky enough to be pretty strong, so if I try and get off the subway or out of an elevator and ppl are blocking the doors, I just lower my right shoulder a bit and plunge out, they usually bounce back a bit and I figure it might teach them something for next time, when maybe its a frail old lady or someone trying to get out. It's not just common courtesy, it's common sense too!

I take the stairs unless I have more than 3 floors to cover. I hate it when I see fat, lazy people hogging elevators. They are the people that ride elevators only 1 floor. Also, I hate when people stand so close to you, almost touching, it's very uncomfortable.

I have elevator etiquette and think it should be practiced by others. But in todays' society with people thinking the world revolves around them, I doubt most people would even consider practicing this common courtesy.
