why is the drive for metric sockets a SAE measurement? what size drive do they use in an all metric society?

    The 'imperial' driver sizes are typically 0.250 and 0.375 inches (with really large ones being 0.500 or 0.750 inches).

    'Metric' drivers would be 6 mm and 10 mm (with large ones being 13 mm and 20 mm).

    Countries using 'imperial' units tend to have 'imperial' drivers because that way they only have to supply one driver for either metric or imperial sockets. Simply put ... they decided to modify the metric sockets to accept imperial drivers (which existed before the metric units were commonly available).
