clunking from under front when cornering on uneven surfaces on a vw?

whenever i corner at low speed and the surface camber of the road changes (ie- turning into a street up a hill from a level road and one front wheel hits the rise before the other) there is a creaking/clunking noise from the front steering/suspension area of the car...- many vw golfs, polo's and passats did it. does anyone no what bushes, joints or brackets this problem is usally caused by?.

First check the CV joints. They're generally found towards the engine end of the rods between the engine and front wheels.

They're normally covered by a rubber surround. Have a look and see if one of those rubber covers is split - it's a common fault.

Dirt getting inside the joint may be causing the problem.

I used to work for VW and so heard of some of the problems with the Mk 4, one person complained about a similar noise and it turned out it was the electric window mechanism. Not sure if this helps but there were a lot of faults with them which can be rectified by your nearest dealer if it is indeed a manufacturing error.

Sounds like a roll bar, strut or linkage. Could be a very simple solution and quite cheap to fix.
