if you win the lottery?

If you win millions in the lotery, would you keep it all

or would you just keep enough for you (you know, buy a house, a couple of cars, and invest enough to cover your basic needs, and one or two luxuries), and give the rest to your friends, family and charity?

If I won the lottery...hmmm...First I would move to a place where no one knows me so they won't come begging for money. After I have provided for my family I would pay off very close friends and immediate families' bills (mortgage, credit cards, cars) and give them a little extra to have fun, then I would donate a good portion to charity. I would also put the town drunk into rehab. He's really a nice guy, the two days a month he's sober but when he's drunk he lets these crackhead women take his money then comes to my job and complain (I work at a Law Enforcement center)

First of all, after consulting with the best tax attorney I can find, I'd give as much of it away as I could to 501(c)(3) organizations to take the tax deduction that would give me the largest refund of the amount deducted for federal and state taxes - giving to local organizations that would both help the community in which I want to live and get them off my back for the rest of my life.

Then, I'd live off the "tax free" refund received therefrom, making non-taxable gifts each year to each of my 60+ member extended family, start a family history foundation for our genealogy and another 'for profit' internet company to support family and other web sites and email service forever.

Have a lot of fun wearing disguises so that people wouldn't recognize me as the winner and continue maintaining a low profile in public.

I would keep most of it for myself. But I would give some to charity, and I'd buy some nice things for friends and family.

I've always said I would invest for myself and family, would make sure my parents and in-laws had plenty for their retirements, set up college funds for all nieces and nephews, help out any family member or friend who needed financial assistance, donate to a medical charity, and then I would blow alot on travel and gifts. Wouldn't it be great to be able to do all that?

I'd share with my family, donate to a few charities, and some in investments.

  • I would give a little to my parents, a little to my brother and a little to my sister, because they are family. Then I would buy myself a house, fix up my little car, and then tell all my new found friends to get a life before I get the fly spray.
