Why would the President Veto the hate crime bill?

I know Bush is Right-Wing, but not so bad!

He's acting like a Nazi German!

The White House issued a veto threat Thursday against legislation that would expand federal hate crime law to include attacks motivated by the victims' gender or sexual orientation.

    Have you read the article?

If they pass the bill it will force hate crimes to be dealt with at a federal level, thereby overloading the already broken system. If the bill is passed you will need to see a federal judge instead of a local or state judge, which will costs millions, delay court hearings, and not change much beneficially.

So basically, it's a problem being dealt with by lower levels, if it passes it will make every hate crime in the country a huge deal.

As for not including victims gender or sexual orientiation...can you imagine haveing every single sexual harrassment case across the country having to come before a federal judge because some jerk made an inappropriate comment?

If someone hits me with a baseball bat, I doubt I'd be comforted by the fact that his calling me names while doing it make it a serious matter.

I find the whole concept of "hate crimes" idiotic.

Rat says "Prejudice, bigotry, and racism are the underlying themes of the Republican Party. Everybody knows this."

That got a laugh from me. It's not often you see someone displaying their own prejudice and bigotry by calling others prejudiced bigots in such a clear and ludicrous manner.

What was the extra crap that Congress put into it? They typically do that. If there are portions that are bad, he SHOULD veto it.

Remember how Congress slips in their pay raises into good bills? That's just one example of the irresponsible nature of Congress (GOP & Dems).

What else was in the bill? Riders of all types are tacked on to bills. The war funding bill that he vetoed had millions devoted to peanut storage! What a joke.
