Are people marrying animals in the Netherlands?
Once again, in an argument regarding civil unions and marriage, I was told that in some countries where gay unions are recognized, people are now wedding the animal kingdom. I'm looking for links to FACTS, not rumor or opinions.

Human-animal marriage, i.e., marriage between humans and non-human animals, is NOT recognized by any modern country, but throughout history people have sought ways to commit to an animal they loved in this way, often involving ceremonies which, whilst not legally binding, carry great personal significance. Such marriages as are allowed by tradition, or within a culture, are often symbolic or ritual, rather than the more usual recognition of an enduring and full relationship.

The news around this buzzed when some fruitcake woman "married" a dolphin in the Netherlands. It wasn't anything legal, just a bizzarre publicity stunt.
You should listen to that feeling in your gut that tells you stupid things like this are total BS. You just got played by a fundamentalist. You should know better.

yup a woman married a dolphin in the netherlands in 2005 , the slippery slope just got slipperier, I think I'll marry my car next year and test the waters for other autophiles who love their vehicles.I love that car. I'm sure I was born this way so it should be ok. maybe we can form a new alliance. gay lesbian bisexual trangendered and autophile, then I can drive my beloved corvette in the pride parade. But nobody gets to " ride" in her but me, we're monogamous!

Yes. It's true.
There is a man in The Hague who married a hedgehog, but they didn't get on so they divorced.
He's now married to a snake and it seems to be going much more smoothly.
