Has anyone ever had an inter-uterine device?

I would like to know about any positive or negative experiences any may have had, or known someone who has had, with an inter-uterine device (IUD). I'm planning on getting one and have heard alot of mixed information.

I have had the copper one for a month now. So far so good. I would not recommend it if you have not had a baby. Since it is placed behind your cervix, it will hurt and can cause scarring. I have had a baby.

There is also the mirena which releases progesterone. The copper one is non-hormonal. Somehow the copper kills the sperm.

The only negative so far is that sometimes my husband can feel the string hitting his penis. The string is attached to the device to insure correct placement and removal.
