where exactly in the bible does it say "no sex before marriage"?
because i was looking through the bible the other day, and it said something along the lines of if a male has sex with a virgin female, then he has to marry that virgin female. but it said nothing about no sex before marriage. i looked in a section that talked about social relationships, and it had a huge list of sex no-nos; such as no sex with your sister, aunt, sister in law, mother in law, mother, grandma, blah blah blah... and if they went on to mention all of THOSE things, don't you think they'd mention no sex before marriage?
just wanted to make sure i didn't miss it or something.
please provide the quote and verse number. thanks

The list of sex no nos is in several sections of the Bible that refers to "unlawful marriages." A marriage is consummated by the sex act.
No written document was required to get married then, only an agreement between the man and woman before God. Often, parents maintained proof of their daughters virginity by retrieving a small cloth from the married couple's wedding bed.
However, there had to be a writing of divorcement to end the marriage (except in the case of death of course).
It was also customary to pay the brides father, which was an enforceable social law. If a man seduced a virgin without paying the "bride price." he still had to pay up and take her as his wife, unless the father refused. If the father refused, the man still had to pay up. See Exodus 22:16-17
Mutually agreed upon sex between a man and a woman was considered a marriage (provided she was not already married).
It was considered sexual immorality to have sex without mutually agreed upon marriage. Marriage was a must in such circumstances. Deuteronomy 22:28-29. The man also lost the right to a divorce in such cases as well . . .what a punishment.
If a man married a woman and complained that there was no proof of her virginity before marriage, and there was no proof, then she would be stoned at the door to her father's house. See Deuteronomy 22.
Two people who were not betrothed having sex before marriage was not punishable by death, but did carry a fine, require a bride price be paid, and required that they become man and wife. (Also in Deuteronomy 22).
Sex with animals or between two men was also in the list of prohibited marriages.
Punishments for sexual immorality depended upon the existing relationship between the the two parties involved and any betrothals or promises they had made regarding marriage to another.
But without a doubt, sex without marriage was considered not only a sin, but a crime. All of these requirements are in the Bible in the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible also known as the Books of Moses or Books of Law).
Of course, after many centuries, the ultimate penalty (death) for many of these offenses was rarely administered, and compassion and forgiveness became more prevalent.

Along with all other kinds of sexual immorality, sex before marriage / premarital sex is repeatedly condemned in Scripture (Acts 15:20; Romans 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13,18; 7:2; 10:8; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7). The Bible promotes abstinence before marriage. Sex before marriage is just as wrong as adultery and other forms of sexual immorality, because they all involve having sex with someone you are not married to. Sex between a husband and his wife is the only form of sexual relations that God approves of (Hebrews 13:4).

Read 1 Corinthians 6:9 to the end of the chapter.
Hebrews 13:4
Also see the warnings in Revelation 21:8 and Revelation 22:15 about those who practice sexual immorality. Some translations use the word "fornication", but I understand the greek word "pornea" (or something like that) refers to any sort of sexual immorality i.e. sexual activity outside of marriage.
To the first answerer, Jesus discusses marriage in Matthew 19, and the first marriage of a man and a woman was in Genesis. Also see Ephesians 5.

Fornication is sex before marriage and it is mentioned here.
Galatians 5:19-21 (New King James Version)
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Those who practice these things will not inherit the kingdom of God. This means if you are haviing sex outside of marriage two or three times a week and you die, you will not go to heaven.
It is in the Bible. I hope that answered your question.

Are you going to really let an old book dictate your love life?
Did you read The Cat In The Hat too?
Sex before marriage is practically the only kind of sex you're ever gonna get- so enjoy it now, honey!
You're going to miss alot if you keep trying to read that fine print in those old pages- go out and live- you know what's right and what isn't- your parents taught you that.
Save that book for a night of insomnia.
The invisible man in the sky didn't want you to take it that literally. Those were the way the stories were passed on long before writing was invented.
The rich symbolism was put there to emphasize the good messages and the point of the thoughtful, philosophical stories included as well as some accounts of how history went down.
Does one not fornicate when one is being fruitful and multiplying? Or do we get into a petty argument of semantics?

Well if the guy had sex with a "virgin" then I would think that is sex before marriage. Ya think?
There are many Jewish laws that cover this in the Bible, but most men want an untouched woman if they can find one these days.

It doesn't say that anywhere explicitly. I know because I read the whole Bible looking for it, and I wrote a paper about it. It does imply in some places, though, that you shouldn't. For me, it's a matter of conscience. While I can't prove from the Bible that premarital sex is wrong, my moral intuitions inform me that it's still a bad idea both for moral and practical reasons.
Source(s): The Revenge of Conscience, by J. Budziszewski http://www.firstthings.com/article.php3?id_article... The problem with all the references everybody else is giving to "fornication" is that the underlying Greek word in all those passages is "porneia" which is a general term for "sexual immorality" and does not refer strictly to "fornication." The word "fornication" is just as much an interpretation as a translation. - ErinyesLv 61 decade ago
People believe that when the Bible tells us not to fornicate or commit adultery that pretty much covers's it. although back in the Time of Jesus marriage meant something different than it does today...these days it's all about paperwork instead of commitment.
