I refuse to do homework. Granted, some people seem to copy their work onto the computer and expect others to do it for them. You see apparent examples of that all the time. I may do one and explain each step, hoping the individual will learn from how I do it.
Others post questions showing how far they got and where they got stumped. Those I gladly help, because I've been in their shoes.
Some seem to throw out brain teasers. Those I take shots at for the challenge.
But those who appear to copy their homework onto the computer in hopes that somebody will answer them... I don't answer. I am tempted, as do some, to bash them online for being lazy, but I resist that temptation.
Math isn't an easy subject, a "a no-brainer" as are so many subjects. Some people take math and are able to run with it. Some can get it, but they have to work their tails off. And some never get it. The latter go into business, or psychology, or maybe education and become teachers. Those of us who have some slight handle on the subject are glad to help those who struggle and sometimes stumble. But not too many of us are apt to do somebody's work for them.
And, my friend, there are math students who help others because, in helping them, in considering their problems, they learn more themselves.
Furthermore, keep in mind that often parents don't know math. Teachers are sometimes too wrapped in doing the parents' jobs of instilling a work ethic and societal values, and other similar functions abrogated by parents, to have time to work individually with students.
And finally, students interested in math really want to understand the subject. They're not all that interested in filling in the proper box on a standardized test. They really want to know the "why" and the "how." All their lives parents and instructors have been telling them, "You can't do that." Remember subtraction? You learned that 1+2=3, so 3-1=2. Somebody asked what would happen if you subtracted 3 fropm 1... the response was probably, "You can't do that." Sure you can, but negative numbers came later. Or division... 2x3=6 so 6/3=2... What happens if you divide 3 by 6? "You can't do that." Sure you can, but fractions came later. Or how abiout √(-1)? "You can't do that." Of course you can, There's a whole branch of math on the subject.... but you were not ready to handle that at the time.
I'll bet you know that you can't "divide by 0." I'll also bet you have no idea why. And I'll bet you probably don't even care. Some of these kids do want to know why. That's what I try to do here.

Hello! Earth calling Melisa!
We are people (in case you forgot) who needs help sometimes. It's just so happen that some people try to get their answers from very odd places (such as this). If you need help (even the most petty ones) and nobody answers you, how do you feel?

I think those that help the kids have a pretty good handle on whose seeking help .. and whose just being plain lazy. Quit yelling and chill out! :)
