Can I share a happy vegetarian experience?

My boyfriend (a non-veg) and I ate at a new vegetarian (vegan) buffet for dinner tonight (we live in Taiwan.) And I was astounded at how happy everybody was there. It is one of those places where there is only one dinner seating, and all the food is cooked at one time, so the restaurant was full to capacity. There were huge tables with huge families;grandparents and toddlers all walking around. But the thing that really astounded me was how HAPPY everyone was! Here in Taiwan, most restaurants are not social places. Customers sit over their bowls of beef-noodle or dumplings and rarely look up, converse or even smile.

Tonight was the most plesent dining experience I have had since moving here almost two years ago. And, I would be willing to bet that less than 50% of the people there would consider themselves "vegetarians" but Asians are just much more accostomed the rest of the world to eating meat-free meals. I think many parts of the world could learn something from this.

Thank

Update:

My point is that I don't know many Non-veg's in America that would be willing to eat at a vegan buffet, much less take their entire extended family there on a Saturday night.

I'm not a veg. But, I would eat at a veg buffet. So would my wife. We eat a lot of vegetables. We raised our kids eating vegetables with every meal. Their friends ate pizza watching TV. We had dinner every night at the diningroom table.

Have you used happycow.net or other listing to find the veggie places there? I was told there are tons of veggie places there, course it helps a little to know the language to find them.

If you can find a temple that serves to the public you may be able to find a very good meal there too.

At the Chinese veg places I've been to in the US, there is a lot of talking and the places can be quite loud.

Just noticed happycow has a myspace page, there is a funny "make tofu not war" picture posted.

It's 15 or 17 years passed when I was a meat eater or Lacto ovo Vegetarian. but when I feels the love with life then I am going vegan and Now I am too Wiser, Too happiar, too lucky and going to perfection too!

But in the vegan life it's so Importent to choose all types of green food and fruites, if you depends only few of veg things then you will sure get problems!

Actually Plants have many types of nutritions but diffrent types of varieties of veg foods, animals are never depends on the only single type of veg food. they choose wisly deffrent type of veg food to live healthy life,.

Your right. A lot of it is culture. Only one or two generations ago vegetables were the staple in the diet to go with rice. Meat wasn't easy to come by. Still, some of the culturally firm people in places like Korea, meat being very expensive, is tough to come by. And yes, I think its cruel and gross, they still eat dogs in a lot of poor communities.

So, for most of them that can't afford meat and don't want to eat their dogs, the primarily vegetable diet is most common.

Source(s): I spent quite some time in Korea.

Fruits are identified as ripened flower ovaries which produce seeds.
