Is this Hormel Chili in a box, still good?

I have a few boxes of Hormel Chili, chunky with beans, in the "smart pak" box. On the bottom it says: Best By Oct 2006. Does that mean they've expired and I should throw them away? (I was keeping them in our earthquake/emergency box). Would you eat it? Is it still good?

Really that's only freshness date. It wont kill you to eat them.
