  • How do i (properly) dispose of a broken rice cooker?

I have broken a Sanyo 3-cup rice timer cooker/warmer. How do I dispose of it? It's really broken and cannot be fixed. Do I just put it out with the garbage, or is it an "electronic" thing that requires special disposal? Thanks.

  • Does anyone see any meteors right now?

I want to go up on our roof and look for meteors but, it's cold and windy and I'm feeling lazy. I live in a city (San Francisco) and the city lights may be too bright and with the cold and wind, I'm not sure that it will be worth the effort. But, tell me, are you seeing any meteors right now? Should I bundle up and get my husband to go up on our roof with me? I was so disappointed that during Capricornids shower at the end of July we didn't see a single one. Shooting stars, anyone?? Please tell me where you are, too. Thanks.

  • What happens to passengers' luggage on a flight like US Airways 1549?

That's the flight that landed in the Hudson River. Will the passengers get their carry-on and checked luggage back? You are supposed to leave your carry-ons if you have to emergency exit the plane. Do you ever get that stuff back? What happens to everyone's belongings? Have you ever been in a plane crash where you had to leave your things behind? What happened? Was your luggage returned to you?

  • Did Yahoo! get rid of the sign-in seal?

Remember the security sign-in seal where you select a picture or image of your choice and choose the border color(s) to securely log in to Y!? What ever happened to that? Mine never worked. Initially, I was concerned that I was being phished every time the request for my sign-in seal window opened. Then, Y! stopped asking me for it altogether. I don't think that it was very effective, really. But, did it go away for everyone? Did Y! abandon that security measure?

  • Has anyone had an old Wedgewood stove top re-chromed?

We have a 36" Wedgewood stove (oven/broiler on left side, flat pan storage on right side with room heater vents on right side). This stove works very well and we were thinking of simply having the top re-chromed. Have you ever had this done? I would like to know what is involved, how much it cost, if it was worth it, etc. Any opinions would be great. Thanks.

  • New comedy movie: ads on comedy central with a shark?

Have you seen commercials on Comedy Central for a new comedy movie? I can't remember the name of it. But, the trailer usually ends underwater with a shark, extending its teeth as it swims toward the camera (our point of view) from dark black waters. A male voice laughs in a dorky way, each time the shark swims closer (they just re-run the clip, with the dorky laugh several times). What is the movie? That shark scene always makes me burst out laughing (I don't know why, it's not that funny, really).

If you know where I can find the movie trailer, I'd like to make my sister laugh at the shark, too.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Not so Big and Fancy - suggestions for places to stay in Santa Fe, NM?

Many moons have passed since I lived & worked in The City Different. Now, my fiancé and I are heading to Santa Fe for a visit and I need help! So much has changed in the lodging landscape and I very much want to make the right decisions here. (I’ve been talking up Santa Fe for so long now... we’re coming so that I can prove to him that it really is THAT great!!!) So, help please. Do you have any suggestions about where we should stay? Wait! Before you list all of the big and fancy hotels, in and around the Plaza (luxurious, yes but, SO not our style), please hear me out. I would love a casita or something with a kitchenette (sometimes, I just want to cook, you know?), and I would really love, love, LOVE a pool. Gads, that’s bad, I know. I am truly sorry about the drought situation. I’ll take shorter showers if I can dip in the pool, I promise. Señor Fiancé chimes in with a request for high speed WiFi for working (we live in the bubble out here, in the other SF!) Ideas, please?

  • Anyone remember a sci fi story about some kids lost (or held captive) in a maze?

The book cover was white and I think that it had a red cube or square on it. I read this story and bits of it have stuck with me for ages! I remember borrowing the book from our local library, but not much more detail about the book itself. I think that there were several teens/pre-teens in the story and that the primary characters were a boy and a girl. They were lost (or held captive) in some sort of meandering maze that provided them with food. It may have been an experiment. I think that they were in the maze of cubes for several days. I think that I read it in the early 80's, in middle school. Any ideas?

  • Is this Hormel Chili in a box, still good?

I have a few boxes of Hormel Chili, chunky with beans, in the "smart pak" box. On the bottom it says: Best By Oct 2006. Does that mean they've expired and I should throw them away? (I was keeping them in our earthquake/emergency box). Would you eat it? Is it still good?

  • Presenting a pre-recorded Power Point presentation with audio on a website?

Hi there. I have a Power Point presentation with audio (an accompanying lecture) that we'd like to make available on our website. I'm thinking that it would be password-entry protected, rather than openly hosted (is that the right term?) for anyone to see, but I am not completely sure. Could you tell me how to do any of this, or direct me to websites for products or programs or companies to make it happen? I just don't know where to start! Thanks so much for your help.

  • What's the deal with the rampant Thumbs Downs?

Have you noticed that someone is going through our Answers and giving everyone responding to a Question a Thumbs Down? I'm finding this increasingly annoying because every answer "awarded" a Thumbs Down has been a good one! Is there anything we can do?

  • What is the best way to remove paint from around our doors?

We live in an old building and after years of tenants, the paint has built up around the bedroom doors and bathroom medicine cabinet. The doors do not close! I think that either the door frames or the edges have too much paint on them. Sometimes they will close but they stick. What is the best way to remove the extra paint? Can I do it without taking the door off? Will it take me a long time? Thanks!!
