Does anyone think Yao Ming is overrated?

He is always vote leader on ALL Star weekend, so yes, he is overrated. He is not that good, but he is good though. A lot of people say he is just tall and he does not have the skill a shorter player at this level has, but height is an advantage same as any other.

Give him a few more years to get accustomed to NBA style of play, and you will have a fine, if not dominating, center.

Well, yes he is overrated but not by much. He might be a slow, weak, no D, no hustle center who only knows how to shoot from mid range but compared to other players his size(bradley, muresan) he's not that bad. He continously improves his scoring averages(while maintaining his other stats) every season while playing with the same number minutes as his previous years.

Compared to shaq's mvp year, shaq needed 7 more minutes per game to average 3 more points, 3 more rebounds and 30% less free throws. Yao might not play the defensive end better, but he's not too overrated.

He's probably one of the top five most overrated players in the NBA, Chris Bosh being the most. He doesn't play defense, and before people start talking about all his blocks, anyone can block a shot, especially someone as tall as he is. He has poor footwork and with his size he should be the best center in the league, but he barely makes a dent in terms of controlling games and helping his team. Look at how well they did when he was hurt this year.

From his rookie season to last year I thought Yao was highly overrated but this season he has improved. However he still has a ways to go before he is a truly dominate center.
