Is it true that having twins is hereditable? Does it depend on family genes or ...?

Or there is a way to maximize the chance of havingf twins? Does it depend on the mother or the father or both?

Having fraternal twins is hereditary on the mother's side. It means the women have a tendency to produce two eggs when they ovulate. I've heard it skips a generation, but not sure if there is any scientific evidence to back that up. Other than getting into fertility drugs, there is no way to maximize your chance of having twins. Although you are more likely to have them the older you are. HOpe this helps!

There are many factors that go into conceiving twins. Yes, it is hereditary (not hereditable) to some extent, especially with identicals and usually through the mother, because it is determined by the egg if it is going to be identical twins. Fraternal twins, on the other hand, are because 2 eggs were fertilized at the same time, and that is usually because of age, at least in this day and age (barring fertility drugs, which make you release more than one egg during ovulation.) Women over 35 tend to release more than one egg due to the fact that the eggs are starting to age, and the body is trying to "get rid of them" so to speak. The ability to release more than one egg can also be a hereditary trait, again, through the mother.

Okay, the genetic factor of whether you will naturally have twins or not can be passed down from either side, mom or dad.

Fraternal (NOT identical) twins seem to run every other generation in families with fraternal twins. So for example if your grandmother on either side of the family had fraternal twins your chances are raised significantly.

Someone on here said that having idenitcal is a hereditary gene but they are wrong. Actually identical twins is really just an oddity of nature. An amazing one, but still an oddity of nature.

If twins run in the mans side this does not in any way influence his wife's chance of conceiving twins but does raise the chances for his daughters to have twins one day and the gene can get passed to his sons who can pass it to their daughters.

Source(s): Loads of fraternal twins in the family and my husbands family.

Twins are definitely hereditary. Research your family history a bit. You will see patterns in the family tree where there were twins. It can skip generations or can come every generation. Your chances are greater if the genes run in both you and the proposed father.

regrettably, there is not lots you're able to do. some fertility medicine can develop your possibilities, yet no surgeon will prescribe them consequently, and there are some fantastically intense side effects in case you took them without prescription (sarcastically, one among them is infertility, yet once you have been to contract OHSS that is deadly). so as that is not an decision and besides, there is no assure the two -- purely a sprint of an more suitable hazard. in case you're over 35 the possibilities flow up, yet that did not help me :) LOL Sperm has NO pertaining to twins; that is all the two on the subject of the egg (fraternal twins) or purely right down to stable old college luck (same). inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, i'm worried which you're sorting out for a sperm donor -- do you have an substantial different with whom to share the extensive duty of a sprint one, under no circumstances innovations 2 toddlers?! purely a theory ....

It can come from either mother or father, identical twins is hereditary, mainly, but it can happen randomly. Non identical twins generally happen randomly. Identical twins are a result of the one egg splitting into 2, non identical twins are caused by 2 eggs being released and both being fertilized, generally as a result of fertility drugs designed to stimulate egg production, but it also happens naturally.

I believe it is more of both parents rather than hereditable. The only way to maximise the chance of having twins is to consult a doctor what are the methods that is being used to have twins.

havin twins in the family increases chance of people having twins but only on the maternal mothers side, the sperm has no input in making either twins or one baby, its the mothers egg and if it splits or not.

u cant increase your chances unless by ivf but if it is going to happen it will if not be blessed with a single child.... 1hard to have twins would be impossible

These days more multiple births are the result of fertility treatments. Natural multiple births are more rare and it does run in families. I don't know of any way to maximize your chance except for fertility treatments.
