This suggests, however, that the problem is an issue at 'their' end as opposed to yours, but why does it work on your wife's pc? Hmmmm.

On your side then, I'd be looking at: Windows updates, are you up-to-date? Clearing down your Internet Cache. And, last resort (for now) Resetting Internet Explorer's advanced settings. Tools>Options>Advanced>Reset.

The HTTP 500 error is usually client-side (not a problem with your computer) however, the fact that your wifes laptop works fine (assuming you use the same internet connection) makes things different.
