Anyone on here learned a language for religion?

I've studied ancient Greek for the New Testament, the Septuagint, the Divine Liturgy, and the Fathers. I've been studying Latin for the Fathers. I intend to add to this some other languages (e.g. Hebrew and Aramaic). It'd be pretty interesting to see what people have learned to read holy texts in, chant in, or pray in.

    Sounds like my resume.

I studied Koine and Septuagint Greek (along with Homer and Attic), and I am working on Hebrew right now. I studied enough Latin to find my way around the Vulgate, but I have a long way to go on that one.

I learned enough Hebrew to hang in there for Shabbat services when I worked as music director at a reformed congretation.

Learned enough Latin to handle the Mass.

I'm Hindu and we have several Holy texts. They're all in Sanskrit (ancient Indian language, English is derived from Sanskrit). I don't know Sanskrit fluently, but all of our chants and prayers are in this language. I have the English translations so I know what I am chanting.

I had to learn Hebrew as a child, but more recently (by choice,) I learned Welsh to aid my studies of Celtic Druidism.

I tried to learn Spanish but I didn't get too far. This preacher I know spoke Spanish and he was a missionary in Latin America. But I do well to know English.

I am learning Arabic for my prayers as a Muslim. I have learned enough to pray confidently in Arabic and I have committed to memory 5 surahs (chapters)

Insha Allah (Allah willing) I will learn more.

    Cantonese Chinese...

...Well, as far as that goes, I think I understand the 'Tao Te Ching' a little bit less every time I try to read it. Bizarre thing...
