group and set theory question?
I have a couple problems I cannot really figure out
Let S be a set with an associative law of composition and with an identity elemment. Prove that the subset of S consisting of invertible elements is a group.
Let S be any set. Prove that the law of composition defined by a*b = a is associative.
and last one
Suppose that G is a group in which all elements x satisfy x^2 = e. Prove that G is a commutative group.
(e is the identity element)
I know they are probably simple, but I do not know much about the associative law of composition, because for whatever reason its not in the book.
Thanks.
i know associativity, but in the context its given i dont understand what it is asking to show.

"Associative law of compostion" simply means that the operation is composition, and that the set is associative; and associative means (a*b)*c = a*(b*c), where * represents the operation.

Set concept is amazingly exciting in its very own top. in case you prefer books to nicely known the way the sphere got here approximately and have some history understanding of the background at the back of it (which i think of its the proper thank you to learn issues) i decide to advise here books: The infinite e book - John Barrow Nets, Puzzles and Postman - Peter Higgins those are short reads and interior the likes of a quick background of Time. those books dont extremely flow into the heavy math and its written for the familiar purpose audience, yet you will get a greater effective understanding how the theories have been derived and once you start up taking classes in discrete arithmetic, you will start to work out how unordered the textual content cloth books are while in comparison with how they have been stepped forward. i'm hoping this helps
