Is vegan yogurt an oxy-moron?
I am trying to eliminate cow's milk from my diet, but I do eat yogurt. I'm looking to find a yogurt made from soy (or something else?) that does not contain dairy or casein. I've found that the soy yogurt available in our local grocery does often contain trace amounts of these. Is there a yogurt that is truly vegan? And how does it taste? Is it worth seeking out, or should I just abandon the idea all together?

Good choice on leaving dairy behind!! I had vegan soy yogurt this morning.... Silk makes a soy yogurt that comes in small flavored tubs or a large vanilla flavored. Also they now make yogurt smoothies. They are all marketed under the Silk LIVE brand. You can get them at Whole Foods or large supermarkets, look near the soymilk or in the natural foods section. I would suggest drinking soy milk for a while first so you can acclimate to the different taste and then move on the soy yogurt, unless you really want to dive in. Good luck!

I just tried the SIlk yogurt (strawberry flavored) and didn't care for it so much. I always had issues with yogurt though. The very thought pretty much disgusts me so it may have been my brain having bad memories. We did however once get the plain soy yogurt, mixed in fresh fruit and oats and that was pretty darn good! :)

The Kroger here in KY sells a soy-based dairy-free yogurt that tastes to me just like the real thing. I haven't any on hand, and I can't recall the name, but it does exist.
BTW, ignore what NYkool said. Rubbish.

So Nice does a vegan yoghut. I've tried a couple of the flavours, but no, it's not really worth it, at least not to my palate. If you can find it, try it. My palate is my palate and yours is different than mine.

abandon ! abandon ! abandon ! Milk with added vitamin D is essential to your life. If you (especially as a woman) stop with the milk, you will end up arthritic with that hump on your back as you get older. Calcium with D cannot be successfully done with vitamins or supplements and especially with cheese and ice cream as most women think. They claim they cannot drink milk because they are "lactose" intolerant, yet they eat cheese by the two pound pack and ice cream by the gallon. I know literally hundreds and hundreds of women with major problems now because they wanted restricted diets. God gave us all teeth to eat both meat and vegetable and both have nerves and feelings, so eat as god intended and you will be healthier as you get older. I Hope this makes you think and helps you in some way. Good luck
