Its is quite a few years now since I have considered myself a Labour supporter so my expectations of him are quite low. That being said, I have a great deal more admiration for Brown than for Blair. In my opinion Brown is the best Chancellor of the Exchequer the UK has had since I started taking an interest in politics in the early 1970s, and if he plays his cards right and distances himself from Blairism, as PM he could well pleasantly surprise a lot of people who currently have lost faith in the government.

Although Brown is fairly centrist in his views, unlike Blair his ideology is still grounded in social justice and when he becomes PM, I hope he will start to guide Labour towards an agenda which, although still not socialist, will be to the left of their current position. Also I believe Brown is a conviction politician who is much more honest than Blair ever was or ever could be. Hopefully Brown will begin to curb the governments culture of lies, spin and incompetence which has been fostered under Blair.

Amanda K - I have an idea which appeals to a lot of people. Its a bit too radical for the politicians though I reckon. Have a look at my answer to this question.

I didn't like Tony Blair as PM.He's got dangerous mates that have caused the UK to become a target for trouble. As for Brown, he'll be taxing fresh air, the window tax will be back (go through your history books) I don't trust him. Now, the late Jim Callaghan, I liked him.He had the kind of face you could trust, know what I mean?

I thought you were talking about something completely different there for a moment. anyway mr brown might be ok. I think Blair was allright really. Everyone complains about the things he did like the war and stuff but he's done some decent things too. Plus he seems like a genuinely nice geezer. Although they say never trust a politician don't they?

Emma, get real what does the Queen know about how we all live. I think i'd rather stick with government thanks, than have a woman born into privilege who has never had to scrimp or scrape to get by or work a day in her life. The only thing the Queen has contributed to the country is that she brings in the tourists and their money.

Cant suss Brown out i suppose only time will tell. Personally i think a total rethink of our government system is well overdue. Anybody any ideas?

Brown is already being manipulated by the spin Doctors, ie no tie, told to remember to smile etc,he is being built up by the Labour friendly media, but the other parties are not getting the same exposure, he seems to me to be a bad choice due to his personality and the fact that he is Scottish, he should be in the Scottish Parliament if he wants to be in politics, let us have a true

Englishman now if you can find one. There are far too many Scots in our Houses of Parliament whilst we are not allowed to make decisions in their Parliament.

When I hear the words Gordon Brown, I burst into song...never a frown on Gordon Brown...la.lala. Golden Brown...lala..

Tony Blair doesn't have any well known songs written that give me anything to sing about....well apart from 'Run to the hills, run for your life'.

Am not a Brit, but am wary of Brown. With Mr. Blair, we did know what we had.

He visited the dentist for the first time in four years last week.

He rarely changes his clothes or shoes.

    He's uncommunicative, secretive, and suspicious.

He's humourless, calculating and very old scottish labour.

He wanted the top job so manoeuvred against Blair till he got it, for no good reason other than his ambition.

He got married for political reasons.

Wait till we need a leader, I'll bet he'll let us down.
