What kind of fish should I get?

I'm getting ready to put in a 10-gallon aquarium in my office, and I'm looking for a single showcase fish or a pair that will thrive in that size of aquarium.

I'm experienced with aquariums, I have a 55-Gallon at home with a collection of African Cichlids.

Most of the above suggestions just will not work in a 10 gal tank. I love parrot fish too but they get much too large for a 10 gal. Also adult angels really need a 20 gal min You need to go with fish that will stay smaller preferably under 2 inches if you want more than a couple of fish like tetras/sword tails and platies and the glass fish as mentioned above all get along great and you can add a betta to add a splash of color. I really like the kribensis cichlid they are mild tempered and the females are quite colorful. They get along with most semi agressive community fish. I have tiger barbs and Gouramis in with mine. Its a great show tank. With a ten gallon tank you are pretty limited on the type and amount of fish you can put in there. If you do add mollies/platies or swordtails you will need to add a little aquarim salt as they do require some salt to survive (not saltwater fish salt but freshwater salt you can get it at any fish/pet store even walmart carries it)

Personally, if you want gorgeous fish; I would go to a good fish store. I don't know where you live, but in Ft. Collins a good fish store is Denizens of the Deep and in Greeley there is pet Emporium. I would recommend going there or another FISH store, not Petsmart or Walmart, they know about nothing-very little about fish. Then tell them what you want personally I like a nicely planted tank idea with a trio of gourgeous brightly colored female bettas, or 1 super beautiful male betta. Another cool type a fish if you can find them are moonlight gouramis. A pair would probably fine in a 10 gallon, here is a really good picture of them. http://elmersaquarium.com/image_fish/01%20gourami_... But if you don't like either of these ideas, just head to a fish store and look around, I'm sure you will find what you want.

    Good Luck!!!!

You might consider a well planted tank. This would make it more picturesque and show off what ever fish you choose much better. It would also make the tank a much healthier and happier environment for the fish. Of course

you would need to have a fish that doesn’t destroy plants. A well planted and decorated tank could be very gorgious on its own even with out a fish in it.

A Puffer Fish! Those are cool. What else....... a small barracuda perhaps I'm not experienced with fish really. I just remember that when i was younger,at my old doctor's office they had a yellow puffer and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Plus you never really ever see anyone with that kind of fish, so i would say try it!

you cannot put a blood parrot in a ten gallon tank

i would put 2-3 gouramis. they are cute and quiet and come in bright colors...plus they get sort of biggish (not so big that they would outgrow the tank though)

A saltwater setup would be nice with 2 clownfish. My LFS did this with a 10 gallon tank and it is beautiful.
