Do playstation 3's play ps1 and ps2 games?

It does play ps2 and ps1 games. We have even played the original spyro(ps1) on the ps3.

THe ps3 even allows you to move your games saves off your ps2 and ps1 memory cards over to the ps3 harddrive. So tell your friend that he can stop wondering about it.

If you live in the U.k. you need to update your system before it will play ps2 and ps games but the U.S. version plays them out of the box.

The old 80 gb (now $400, same as xbox elite) can play ps1 and ps2 games, but the new 120 gig model is basically a 40 gig with an upgrade, as it lacks all of the features the 40 gig also lacked. That means no ps2 games (but you can still play ps1 games) no memory card readers, 2 USB ports, etc.

Yes! Plus, you can buy a memory card adapter for 14bucks so you can store all your old saves for your ps1 and ps2 games to your ps3! I have had no problems, they also load a heck of a lot faster in the PS3.

It can play about 95% of games. The only problem is the games could either look better on the PS3 or they look horrible. For example, I played GTA San Andreas on it and it was crystal clear, but when I tried Lego Star Wars II, it looked like crap (its graphics were worse than a PS1's). Hope this helps.

your friend is wrong. the ps3 is backwards compatible meaning it could play ps1 and ps2 games.
