I'd use one of two products:

Brand name "Goof-Off", some may say it's bad for paint, but I never had any problems with it, and I worked at a used car dealer in high school cleaning cars, using it many times to remove residue from unwanted stickers, and one time some cars were vandalized with a magic marker and the stuff took that right off with out harming the paint.

Or try bug and tar remover offered by many brands. I have used this for tree sap before and it works with a little elbow grease. You can find both at a store like Wal-Mart near the car wash stuff or in the paint area.

    Step One

Gather together a soft rag (an old T-shirt is perfect) and a sap-dissolving solution. You can use a commercially prepared solution designed specifically for this task ("Bug, Asphalt, and Tree Sap Remover" is how one brand denotes it) or mineral spirits or paint thinner.

    Step Two

Pour a bit of your sap-dissolving solution onto the rag. Hold it against the sap for a moment, then dab and rub gently, turning the rag as you go to wipe the sap off.

i have found that a noncholrine type brake cleaner is best but you will need to wax that area really good with a paste wax to bring gloss shine back, isnce it willl remiove the wax on vehicle but not harm the clearcoating on it
