Depends on the antenna that is on it, and the RF output that it is ratted for. A three watt handheld w/ a rubber duckie antenna, will maybe get a 1/2 mile. A five watt handheld w/ a steel whip antenna, and a center load coil, will get maybe 5 miles. It also depends on the current sunspot cycle, and band conditions at the time.

This depends on the power of the tranmitter and what kinds of physical and electronic artefacts might interfere with the transmission.
I have 6 handheld CB radios of varying strengths. A quality 5 watt transmitter with a clear Line-Of-Sight will transmit a good, clear signal at least 5 km/3 miles. Lower powered handhelds will have a more limited range.

about .5 miles. the antenna is too short with only about 4 watts max out put.
