Work as a Teacher?

I wouldn't move to another state for a teaching position. With a very few exceptions, the field of teaching is extremly plentous and most states have teacher shortages. Although you hear that conditions may be better in other states, every district has their own set of problems and the grass is not always greener in other states. Besides, the salary in teaching is not worth it to relocate.

I did move to another state for a teaching position. There were no teaching positions in Pennsylvania, my home state, because they have a "glut" of teachers there. I moved south to Virginia. Other states with shortages are Nevada, Florida and North Carolina. I'm sure there are others.

I moved to Guam from Northwest Indiana near Chicago. I got tired of all of the city people moving in the state. Secondly, the economy is horrible. Thirdly, I teach Social Studies which means I am like a street sign (there is one of us on each corner). I love Guam. I close to Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, New Zeland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. I do not see myself coming back to the "wasteland"

Las Vegas often offers a signing bonus for new teachers, because they can never recruit enough. The Las Vegas Valley is the fastest growing Metropolitian Statistical Area in the United States.

I can't move, but I would switch jobs to teach in my home state if I could live off of the pay. As it is, I am involved in adult higher education.
