We did it here in Ontario, Canada. It's working rather well. It'll work out for the better. The first couple of months, business will drop from lack of smokers holding a grudge. But soon all the people who couldn't come out because they don't like the smoke will come out and take over as regulars in bars and pubs. Next step is to ban smoking close to entrances. I really hate trying to go in or out of somewhere and have to breath in 20 or more cigarettes at once.

Absolutely.....I live in Canada and it has been just about 2 years since we started the public smoking ban here and it is great! No one has to be subjected to anyone else's second hand smoke. They are talking about banning people from smoking in their own vehicles if children are in them too. And it is about time!

People should have a choice whether they are poisoned or not, and as I have stated before, smokers will frown on my answer, but I used to smoke too, and LOVED it, so I do also understand you, but I choose life...

Im a smoker but i do think this is a good thing as the smoke in pubs e.c.t can be over wellming and this can stop people who dont like smoking going in there, However no smoking room within work places is going abit far as non smoking dont had a need to go in there unless you choose too it sint being pushed up on them. Also no smoking in company cars, surely thats abit far? i can understand if its a pool car as others use it but your campany car?? whats the point in that?? x

We just enacted one here I think its a little unfair, especially for the bars. I live in Michigan, they don't have the ban, but Ohio does, and thats where we used to hang out. Now Ohio is losing all it's business to Michigan. In the summer months its fine, but nobody likes to stand outside and freeze to death. Maybe I'll quit.....

Before they passed the full on ban, they forced all the bars to put in a smoking room, had to have four full walls and doors. Bars spent a lot of money changing for the ban, then they put the total ban on smoking, so they lost all that money. I think its really crappy.

I don't live in England, but I have lived there (for a year) and I CANNOT see this smoking ban there actually happening! It's unreal! I don't smoke- but I mean, c'mon, it's just not the same thing to visit your favorite pub without the familiar smoky ambiance! It's just not RIGHT. I know it's better health wise and we have done it here in California, but having a ciggie with your pint is as natural as having a cuppa. Not happy about it.

It isn't. The government is taking away your freedom little by little in the name of they know what's best for you. The postwar government of Atlee promised to create Jerusalem on England's green and pleasant shore. I ask you: Has that happened after all these years of government control in you life? The Great Society promised by Lyndon Johnson here in the States never materialized either. Is giving up smoking in public going to improve things? The past record of government says no.

I think it's a joke. People complain that there's "Too much government" in our lives, but then they don't seem to mind the government meddling in people's affairs, when it's something they don't like, as in smoking. We're quickly becoming a society that soon won't even be able to step out of the house for fear of hurting, angering, or offending someone, and getting sued. It's a joke.

  • i think it's ridiculous

government spend a few million encouraging people to stop smoking and bring in a few bans to appear to be trying to stop smokers

but do you really think they care ????

if every body stopped smoking look at all the tax revenue they would lose

smokers (and i agree smoking is bad ) are scapegoats

    if you don't smoke,

    don't drink alcohol,

    don't drive a car

    and don't gamble

    you don't pay your way

if every body stopped all of the above our governments would be brought to there knees

I think it's stupid. Here in California, there banning smoking on beaches! It's freaking rediculous, overkill, and to much government intrusion into our private lives. And I don't even smoke!!!
