Why do christians pick and choose which scripture they want to take literally?

We don’t pick and choose. Some scriptures are literal, others are metaphors, some are proverbs, some are music lyrics, and some are parables…

Why do christians think it's ok to use derogatory terms regarding gays? Do they not think that comes from hate?

Actually I used the derogatory terms hatefully before I was born again. Since then I only use homosexual(s) and apply any criticism to the act not the person.

Why do christians insist on ranking sin? I thought all sins were equal in god's eyes?

Some people believe that some sins are greater than others. Actually they are all on par but one; blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is the only unpardonable sin.

Why do christians always throw out the "body is a temple" scripture when many christian families stuff their faces every sunday, sometimes more with horrible, fatty, resturant food? Yea, I often see them at the buffet.

Like the above this is somewhat denominational. It does go to the sin of gluttony if eating becomes a substitute for spiritual well being.

Why do christians try and push christianity on to people that are truly happy with their own faith?

We are to teach witness and preach the Gospel. You call it “pushy” we call it Evangelism.

Why are fellow christians ostrasized for having mental illness or simply being sad. They're told to perk up, jesus loves you! Or it's attributed to demonic posession/opression because the sufferer must have "let something in" or just needs to be stronger in their walk with god

We do not “ostracize” we console and strengthen through shared Faith. We certainly don’t disparage those with mental illness. Possession by demons is a spiritual matter not a mental matter and requires spiritual attention.

My opinion is you are questioning these things from a negative perspective. You might want to try a positive approach if for no other reason than to balance things out.

First of all, why are you putting christians on a band wagon like we are all the same? I personally DO NOT pick and choose scriptures. All the scriptures were left as a guideline to all of our lives, the good, the bad and yes, the ugly. They all apply.

Second. Noone, christian or not, should use derogatory terms regarding anyone. We are to pray for people and not judge them.

Third, there is no ranking of sins.Sin is sin and the bible says NO sin will enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

Fourth, the body is the temple of the Holy Ghost and since when is it a sin to eat? Some people aren't fat because of overeating. They may have other problems that cause the excess weight.

Noone should try to push anything on anyone. Usually when people think that people are pushing their religion on others is the other person is simply trying to witness to them, which is what we were called to do. Spread the gospel and become fishers of men. I cannot relate to the last part of your question, therefore, I won't comment.

we call gays gay. and anything else in unneccessary. (but as a side note... get over it. any one who is offended by something... ignore it!!! or go somewhere else.)

anyways, we rank sin because culture has dictated that there are diferences. and because its human nature. hopefully we keep in mind that they are all equal.

and I've never heard of ostrizing fellow Christians. the whole "Jesus Loves You" is sooooo over used. its a Christian cliche, that is a "sunday school answer". And it shouldnt be used half as often as it really is.

And we try and tell people about following Jesus Christ because we believe that not following Him leads to a person's eternal separation from God and spiritual death. The fact that they are "happy" in their own faith has nothing to do with it. Someone might be happy believing that 2 x 3 = 5, but it doesn't mean they have the right answer. It's as if we knew the cure for AIDS and didn't tell anyone -- our belief is that we are responsible for a person's soul if we don't tell them how to be followers of Christ.

Some people do it more tactfully than others, it's true. But that's why we do it at all.

Christians are admited sinners and are not perfect and do not claim to be.

Most of the faults you point out are in everybody and just manifest themselves in different ways you seem to be upset about people being people, they way they have always been and always will be.
