It sounds like your dog may have a bowel obstruction, and/or kidney failure. The vet wants to puncture the bladder to relieve the pressure, and make your dog more comfortable, they'll drain out the urine that has built up in the bladder. While this itself isn't a cure, it will make your dog more comfortable in the meantime. It sounds like he needs some serious medical attention to detect what exactly is wrong with him. If you aren't comfortable with the vet that you have I would strongly suggest seeking out another vet for a second opinion immediately!! Your dog needs medical attention, not the advice of novices on Yahoo Answers. Good luck to you and your dog.

Take him immediately to a decent vet and act on his/her advice. We can't really give veterinarian advice as we aren't qualified.

12 years is quite old for a German Shepherd so steal yourself

maybe nothing can be done for him, and it might be kinder to ask the vet if what affliction he has is it curable. It may be treatable, maybe a kidney stone, who knows.

He could be suffering from an inflamed liver or pancreas too, GSDs get a lot of that but usually have runny stools with it. A blocked tummy from eating a stone or bone.

Very sad to hear too I may add. So I wish you all the best.

i think that you need to think about putting him to sleep. if he is in that much pain and his body functions are not working. 12 years old is quite old for a G/S., talk to your vet about this. i had to put a 3 years old dog to sleep because his quality of life was not good he was in a lot of pain because of an illness. it is not easy but deciding if the dog life is still fun or just living not enjoying life. i hope that you decide to do the right thing for the dog

Your dog may be in need of emergency surgery. His inability to deficate may be due to a twisted bowl.

You need to take your dog to a reputable veterinary hospital asap.

I am sorry. Your dog is getting old and his body may be shutting down. It might be time to think about saying goodbye to him.

We just lost our dog, he just turned 13 years old two days before he died. Dogs get old, they die, I'm sorry, but it doesn't sound good for your dog. You might think about putting your dog to sleep instead of letting him suffer.
