Why do we want a War Czar? Didn't the Communists defeat the czar and then we had to defeat the Communist? Does this not make the concept of czar third rate? gwb's cluelessness astounds me!
The way it is supposed to be: President is the Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. Congress funds the Armed Forces. This is called a system of checks an balances. It insures that the President and Congress serve the will of the people. It is called a democratically elected republic. It is the best form of government ever devised. Why don't we try that?
Is there anyone who thinks this is a good idea? If you have not done this already, put war czar in the search for answers. I have not found anyone who likes it. Not even the real gwb die hards!

We don't want a war czar. We don't even NEED a war czar. Bush wants and needs one because he's tired of everything he touches turning to crap. He's delegating his most important responsibility as President - evaluating and strategizing with regard to a war in which this country is engaged. This way, when the Decider decides, when it doesn't work out, he can say he was acting as best as he could with the information he had at the time, which will be filtered through the war czar. It's a pretty good plan, except that it's completely unethical for the President of the United States to abdicate his responsibilities as the "commander guy."

Word Czar is from Russian "Tsar" or "Czar". This terminology came from Roman "Caesar". As you know, "Caesar" came around after Augustus turned Roman Republic into Empire and it was used as "emperor" or "dictator". So I will agree with you that "War Czar" is not really politically correct.
BTW, Communists did not defeated Czar in Russia. There were 2 revolutions - first with moderate socialist party overthrowing Russian monarchy and the second, where Communist party overthrew the Provisional Government.

The Communists didn't "defeat" the Czar. They "murdered" him and his entire family. As for tactics, they're blunt, but effective.
I guess the country needs "czars" when the Constitution won't allow things the ruling class wants to do, and when Congress doesn't declare war, as is its sole authority. Note that only Congress can declare war, and of course Congress can't give its authority (legislative branch authority) to a different branch (executive), as they did with their illegal "resolution." It's in Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 -- that's all Congress is actually allowed to do!

Just the first steps in turning this country into a monarchy before he has to step out of office.
