Summer reading...?

I am looking for some great books to read this summer. I like historical or romance and I don't like mystery or cheesy romanance novels (ie harliquin romance). Any suggestions??? Thanks :)

Update:

I have read Redeeming Love, and yes it is fablous. I liked The Historian, The Alchimist's Daughter (just finished), Wicked, The Shopoholic Books, The Devil Wears Prada.....

A good book to read is 'The Innocent'. It's a good historical romance triology. The next book is 'The Exiled' then 'The Beloved'. Hope this helps!

No matter what you do, you HAVE to read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It is a historical romance, not cheesy at all. Actually pretty serious. Have you read it already? By the same author: The Last Sin-Eater. So good. Read them in that order. I PROMISE you will not be disappointed! They are both really easy to get into, and you will feel a real connection with the characters.

If you like historical romance, try Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It was recommended to me as summer reading quite some time ago: time travel (not cheesy), history, and romance all in one. She's written many books in the series, but Outlander is the first, and quite enjoyable.

Someone else recommended Wuthering Heights, which is classic. Have you tried Jane Austen? Start with Pride and Prejudice.

I really liked The Red Tent ~ Anita Diamant. Not cheesy, has some romance in it... Other than that I like inspirational books like : God Whispers ~ Karyn Kedar, The Blessing of the Skinned Knee ~ Wendy Mogel, To Begin Again ~ Naomi Levy.

what books have you read and liked? Books like wuthering heights are usually a favorite. or more recent, the red tent or a book called the scent of god about an autobiography of a nun who fell in love with and married a priest.
