What is the name of the grass that is planted in Florida or other very dry areas?
I need a grass that can handle long periods with little rain. Can anyone tell me the name/type of seed.
Thanks for your help.

It is Bahia... I live in Florida, there are two popular grasses. Floratam(St. Augustine) and Bahia. Bahia is simply a pasture grass. Very drought tolerant. You can usually find the seed at a big box or feed store. It also comes in sod pieces with 400sq.ft. per pallet.

Bahia grass is the most drought resistant turfgrass in Florida. Once established its roots penetrate very deeply into the soil and although it may turn brown during a severe drought it greens back up very quickly when it gets water. It can be a little more difficult to mow when it gets healthy and thick. It can be started from seed.

Buffalo grass is good for that, as long as it's going somewhere with full sun. You can also check with your local ag extension center and see what they recommend.
