Should I lie about my education?

I have decided to change careers because my work in microbiological R/D was absolutely unfulfilling. I am applying to a Dental Hygiene program by Jan, but I have not told any potentional employers about it. The hospitals have rejected all my applications because they only require a GED/HS diploma and I have not worked at a hospital or have documented phlebotomy exp. Medical offices have dumped my resume b/c I do not know their programs. I have no documented sales exp. I apply and apply with no good results. I am intelligent, friendly, likable, and easy on the eyes. Should I lie about my education or my experience to get a job? I hate to, but I am desperate for a job. Thanks for your opinions.

Definitely not. Any reputable company is going to do an extensive background check, and once they see there are discrepancies in your resume, they will probably dismiss you. The best thing to do is try and get some sales experience in some capacity, then reapply for this position. Who knows, a better position may open up later. Good luck with everything.

Go to the local workforce program and tell them about your problem because they may be able to help you and stand in your corner. Research the programs they have and get all the necessary knoweledge needed to do the job and then tell them the truth about your education. Don't lie about it because they will expect you to know something that you don't know and you will probably get fired over it and then it will be REALLY hard to get a job anywhere else. If you lie and get caught all employers will be able to look you up and see that you lied about your education and then they will wonder if you are lying to them and in the trash your résumé will go. Don't lie. Obtain the necessary education and tell the truth to your employer.

I wouldn't lie about either, but if you really want to go with one or the other, without question don't lie about your experience.

If you tell them you know how to do something, they bring you in and set you out on your own to complete the task or ask you to show someone how to do something and you don't know how....you're dead in the water right there. Especially in sales. Last thing you want to have happen is to get caught in a lie during a call.

I have seen companies ask for transcripts or proof of education as well.

Take it from someone who's tried stretching the truth on a resume in the past. It's embarassing as hell if you get busted.

No way. Most employers do a background check any more. If they catch you in a lie, it means immediate discharge. Instead of lying, how about turning it into a positve? Do you have any volunteer experience related to what you want to be when you grow up? Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

Be honest. It would go worse for you if you lie and are caught.
