If you believe homosexuality is an abomination could you please read the following?
and answer the questions held within
Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:
Dear Dr. Laura:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:
When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted fan,
Jim
guilt of what? I've no guilt buddy! Life is tooooooo short for that malarky!
Malcom Knoxville - u rock too dude! Love the abs lol
Nope, I'm not gay. I'm a woman with a fiance (male) whom I love very much! I just don't have a problem with homosexuality at all
hmmm...so is noone gonna actually answer?I truly want to know how the religous people explain this!!
God's child - this is exactly the problem! You are making your own interpretations of the questions put forward to suit your life, yet you take the homosexuality abomination as literal. This makes no sense! You can't pick and choose what you apply to your life. If you do it with one you must do it with all. Oh and pigs aren't dirty and don't eat garbage. Also are you seriously relating incest with homosexuality? It's a sad state of affairs if you are
just as you will too wired! We can be nice and toasty warm together

The levitical priesthood was given the duty to do sacrifices not you. Get over it.
The law of the land is that we may not buy or sell slaves. Slavery is not a command but to treat them humanly is. Since we are told to obey the law of the land unless it would be against the commandments we can't own slaves.
It was not for the John Q public to execute people for breaking the any of the Laws but was to be decided by the court. Israel never enforced the sabbath on the unbelieving strangers in their midst.
Eating shellfish is an abomination. So is homosexuality. get over it. There is no degrees of abomination there is just abomination.
Unless your a Priest of the Line of Aaron the law doesn't apply to you so get over it.
Trimming your hair around the temples is about shaving it to mourn the dead and has nothing to do with hair style. You guys are really dooling idiots you know that
Your are only unclean you haven't sinned. You can't go to the temple or tabernacle and since it doesn't exist no big deal.
Again its not up to the individual to judge especially the unbeliever. Its up the the civil government. I don't wear garments of two differant materials myself.
Your ignorance is only topped by your juvenile attempt at humor that we have all seen before. Do you clowns ever get tired of the same old jokes? I feel like I'm in a room with children telling old knock knock jokes.
And you guys think your so brilliant.

Very funny - as material taken grossly out of context often is.
And what is the context here? A people on the move through hostile territory from one country to another, from slavery into unknown freedom; a society in which animal sacrifice and human slavery are simply accepted. The belief that they had to stay together, had to stay pure and had to keep producing children within their own families, not allowing any seed to go to waste. The belief that they must not allow themselves to become 'contaminated' by intermingling with the beliefs, culture or women of other tribes.
If you look at the Ten Commandments in that light - and the vast majority of the Law that follows, (in Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, etc.) is interpretation or extrapolation of the original Ten - it is easy to see how necessary those Commandments were as basic rules for living together harmoniously in a community under stress.
And while we're at it, is there anyone here who would NOT like to live in a society where there was no murder, no adultery, no malicious lying, no theft, no envy; and where there was proper respect both for elders and for the world in which we live?
Well?

Well, I probably don't meet your criteria since I'm not "religious", just a Christian; but I have to agree with those who have pointed out that Christians are under "Grace", *not* the Jewish "Law"! And that, yes, homosexual *behavior*, is considered an abomination and a sin, in the New Testament, too.
I have, though, heard of and read of some liberal, so-called "Ministers" of at least two Protestant denominations. who have tried to claim that the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah, was "inhospitality"! That's part of why I don't belong to either denomination, or any like them!

Great question - I was going to read the answers you got but the amount of bigotry being expressed is making me feel ill. I can't stand these people that think that they know what is right and wrong bassed on a book that was written 2 millenia ago. They are just plain ignorant and deluded.

I've been fond of this list of quotations for years. It amazes me that Fundies obsess over OT laws, and would call anyone quoting from the Sermon on the Mount a Communist.
I once was physically attacked my a Fundie when I pointed out that the Gospel of Luke (10:25-37) trumps every page of the OT, and that the rest of Scripture only has meaning in as much as it sheds light on what Christ meant when he said
Matthew 5:43-48 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Yet again it has been pointed out that the various holy books contain grotesque and unjust punishments for trivial 'offences'. Some parts of scripture both koranic and judeo-christian are clearly no longer relevant or fit for purpose. If the offending sections could be banished in a new apocrypha, perhaps religion would get a bit more respect and standing in the eyes of others. It is comical to watch dyed in the wool fundamentalists getting their ontological underwear in a twist trying to interpret and justify these obsolete and offensive passages.

I love the fact that no-one is answering the questions! The Christians are harping on about old covenants and new covenants, but the fact of the matter is god, God, or G-d 'is' a fascist. When these 'loving' Christians and Jews get their act together and realise that, the world will be a much better place.
Starla, thanks for this!

I'm an athiest and I agree with you. A lot of it is just hypocrisy. What's wrong with being gay or straight? It's a private matter and it's not directly affecting anyone else. Why don't they just let people live however they want?

Beautiful. Well done.
Will any of these people ever 'see the light'?
These people say the Greeks were delusional.
This stuff is insanity on a societal scale.
I my opinion, religious people should have no right to vote.
They should be managed, just like any other deranged person should be.

The Law as found in the Old Testament is for the Jews, but Christians can, will, and should get familiar with them so that they can try to do right. The statement that homosexuality "is an abomination" is Biblical, but is a comment on how God perceives homosexuality.
Christians acknowledge that the United States of America does not utilize the justice system outlined in the Bible. I would be surprised if no one mentions that this is a bad thing, but would you seriously want to use God's laws in America today?
Christians rejoice in the fact that we don't have to attempt to live perfect lives according to the Law to get to Heaven. God acknowledges our inablity to pull it off, and so sent His Son to pay for our sins and give us a more reasonable path to Heaven.
Thank you for your dedicated efforts to continue belittling believers, but it really isn't necessary. No, really.
