You must have a Wildcat.... wow... good ol beasts, but very heavy... needles to say a nice mild cam (hyd lifter grind with some good lifters) a intake Combo w/carb from any one of
several speed sources....a good distributor....and a nice set of headers sent thru a tuned exhaust system will wake the beast up and set you back in the seat and surprise many a
Nova, etc.. with your sleeper....remember you can't get it in if you can't get it out.... so just part of it like intake and carb will do almost nothing for you....but if you put together a nice pkg..
hold on to your seat.... good luck + happy motoring..

What is it in? A deuce and a quarter? (Electra 225)
As always, you want to keep the mods balanced, not too much cam without improving intake and exhaust flow. Keep in mind that the engine is a torque monster, not a revver, so you want to enhance its natural ability. Improved exhaust will help but if you reduce backpressure too much, you will lose torque.
I would look for an Edelbrock manifold for it. They used to have one called the "Torquer" for Chevy; I don't know if they had a Buick version but that would be a good choice.
Make sure the valves are clean if it has not had a valve job recently. Deposits on the valves will rob horsepower. It should be able to handle a large Holly carb. Stick with a single carb and not anything too fancy.

I've played with cars most of my life and am a frustrated street racer haven't done it for about 40 years now. When you talk 430 cubes the first one that comes to mind was in my first 55 ford 2dr post. We pulled it out and stuck it in a 56 Merc.God would it fry tires (biaus) My friend and I bored it .060 over.10.25 compression. stuck in a 3/4 (R/V) type cam solid lifters and 780 cfm holly duel feed It dynoed at 487 horse @ 4800 rpm. Big rpm for a big block back in 1964. I would think you could do better than that today for the same money. Good luck with your Buick
I'm well past 60 now and still love the big cubes. My toy today is still Ford 460cid in my 78 mark V pimp mobile.
Source(s): Trust me I haven't thought of that 430 in a loooong time. When I was 16 I was called shortwheelbase I just make 5' - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

a #1 is generally a small combo but I prefer a #8 with extra cheese cause it's big.
