Why the North is "up"?
Why on every map the Artic always lies on top and not Antartica? What makes people put it on top and why the North is towards the Artic pole, the South is towards Southern pole and not other way round?
It is because of all first maps and activities were on the Northern Hemisphere, but why the first Greek map makers put the Artic Pole on top, why did they not look up on Africa or the tropic instead?

mapmakers throughout the world invariably put north on top, that's why Artic is on top.
The Arctic is the region around the Earth's North Pole, opposite the Antarctic region around the South Pole.
The notion that north should always be up and east at the right was established by the Egyptian astronomer Ptolemy (90-168 AD). "Perhaps this was because the better-known places in his world were in the northern hemisphere, and on a flat map these were most convenient for study if they were in the upper right-hand corner," historian Daniel Boorstin opines. Mapmakers haven't always followed Ptolemy; during the Middle Ages, Boorstin notes, maps often had east on top--whence the expression "to orient." But north prevailed over the long haul. By the time Southern Hemispheroids had become numerically significant enough, the north-side-up convention was too well established to change.

It could be because most of the rivers run from north to south. Which logically leads to the theory that north is at the top and south at the bottom.
This could be the reason the earlier maps showed north at the top.

i asked a question why this was so.
but you see, how a map is portayed does not rely on power, but power of history. the first maps and historical study's were all conducted from the nthn hemisphere, the first maps wer made there. maps are usually centred anywhere u like ... you can check out my profile, and go to questions iv asked and check out my responses if u like.

precisely! North of Clare! as quickly as we circulate Up North it is many times to Cheyboygan. acquaintances have a cabin there. i think of comparable to you, tall pine wood, cabins and lakes and streams crammed with fish. I went with my daughter and her sisters in regulation and mom in regulation to a small city close to Gaylord final summer season and it became a blast. Longs walks, a craft teach, loads of conversations and board video games. while our son became right here from virginia we went to The Soo and Mackinac island. I hadn't been there in view that 1969. it is nevertheless as suitable as ever!

I think it should be the other way round so then Australia would be on top of the world.
