Santa Fe Police Department Says It Might Hire Mexican Nationals

    POSTED: 1:41 pm MDT May 16, 2007

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Santa Fe Police Department is having trouble filling police jobs, so it is looking into the possibility of recruiting Mexican nationals.

Sergeants Gillian Alessio and Marvin Paulk are in charge of the department's recruiting and training.

They said on Tuesday that they're trying to think of alternative methods of filling 20 vacancies on the city's 155-person police force.

But Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Johnson said New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy regulations prohibit non-citizens from serving as police officers.

Alessio said the Santa Fe police force, like others around the country, is vying to recruit the same 21- to 30-year-olds as the U.S. military.

Alessio said the national need for military recruits is taking a toll on the police department.

you don't even need to go as far as big name companies, just take a walk around the town/city where you live and see for yourself how many of your local businesses use illegal labors. Your local diner, grocery store, contractor/building companies, burger joint, I bet your town might even have hired many illegals for the road /bridge/maintainance work for a long time.

Just so you know how deep and complicated this problem has become.

Good for you! I will list some sites below. I think wehirealiens.com would be the first place to look. Also, learn which companies to boycott at http://www.illegalimmigrationboycott.com/

A great organization that is free to join is www.numbersusa.com You can send faxes or emails to politicians on immigration-related issues. We are trying to stop the Senate from passing an amnesty bill, so please visit numberusa and send some faxes. Also, the Yahoo group Protect Our Border Now, which I belong to, provides a lot of info about immigration issues, http://www.protectourborder.net/
