South Beach Diet- question about carb guidelines?

I know the book doesn't specifically state how many carbs one should have in phases 1 and 2. It does encourage good carbs, which is great. However, in eating all those "south beach diet" packaged stuff, I find that they have a surprisingly high number of carbs. Is there like a guideline one should follow, like no more than 20 grams per day? Has anyone done South Beach, and what were your results? What worked for you. Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!! :) :)

Most of the packaged stuff is geared toward phase 2 and it has a lot of dietary fiber, so the "net carbs" are much lower than the total carbs. There's not really a set number of carbs to follow, South Beach is more focused on eliminating bad carbs and sugar. So make sure that your sugar intake is as close to 0 as possible (for phase 1) and that you aren't eating over processed carbs (pasta, white bread, etc.) 20 carbs a day is Atkins territory and not exceptionally healthy.

When I was on South Beach, I ate a lot of cheese and meat, especially on Phase 1. You have to be REALLY careful coming off the diet (and even moving to Phase 3), it is REALLY easy to gain it back. Good luck!
