It's called Bank Holiday. Which is every first Monday of June. I was at one in England, and everybody had a day off and went out for picnics and having a good time with friends.

The church which the friends of mine attended had a huge picnic and bouncing castles for the kids and other activities organized.

It's a bank holiday. Nothing will happen, except that most businesses and all schools will be closed. The first Monday of May, June and August are all bank holidays.

its just a bank holiday monday, we're not celebrating anything, but beware that store's opening hours are shorter, and there might be more people shopping in galway city. enjoy your stay!
