I'm 15 and i live in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I need a job for the summer... any advice? Should i fill out as many applications as i can or look for "now hiring" signs?

At 15, it may be difficult to get a regular type of job, since you have a limitation by federal law to maximum of 3 hours per day and 18 hours per week when school is in session and a maximum of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week when school is not in session. You also can not work before 7 a.m. and after 7 p.m., except during summers when you can work until 9 p.m.
I think you should spend a little time thinking about what profession you would like to try out in the future. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly fine to get a retail job at the local McDonald's or department store. But you may be in a position where you can use your summer job to make money and to add to your college application a couple of years from now.
I recommend:
1) Find out what industry you may want to look at in the future. Do you want to be a doctor? Do you want to work on Wall Street? Do you want to work in the non-profit organizations? Are you interested in politics?...etc.
2) Go to the store/office where your future career may be. For example, you can go and ask your doctor to see if they are willing to hire you to help out around the office. Or a local stock brokerage, a lawyer's office, a political campaign for the mayor/governor...etc.
3) You could also check with family, friends, relatives to see if someone is working for a company that may be willing to hire a 15-yr old office assistant. Establishing relationships early will help you with both college and career later on.
4) And if you really just want to get a job to make some money and really don't care about anything else... yes... just submit lots of applications and get applications from places with a "hiring sign"
Good luck!

Great job kid! I love your ambition!
My suggestion would be to go around town where they are hiring ad speak directly with a manager or owner. Tell them that although your young, you can contribute to their organization/store with your enthusiasm, hard work ethic and smarts. Be honest and tell them what your goal is. (You want to save for a bike- or whatever.) They will relate to this.
I would also ask places like local stores (not chain stores) if they could pay you in cash, otherwise you'll quickly learn about taxes.
If nothing opens up, try to look around and figure out a service you can provide. (A job is a service you provide and get paid for it.) You could get a newspaper route, or start a hand car wash. Go to neighbors and ask them if they have any lawn mowing they may need. Typically asking older people if they need help would be a great way to go.
I'm sure that you'll get something -just be persistent and go after it. You are learning a great lesson in life, and you'll make it as long as you keep expanding your skills.
Great job and best of luck!

There are many businesses moving into the area from the coast so it would be easy to get a job waiting tables or retail. Just fill out applications at places you would like to work.

Interview.....boots on the street and in the door. Find out what needs to be done that you can handle.
Ask first what the prospective employer would consider your services to be worth to perform the required tasks.
Good luck. You are on a 'learning adventure' that will last a lifetime.
Congratulations on your ambition. Don't lose it!

I always do my searches on the internet, most now require you to fill out initial papers there and will call you if they wish to pursue further, when you do get that next step then keep after them remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

do no longer basically telephone. circulate to a potential artwork place in individual. additionally, gown the style you may in case you have been going to start working there suited once you walk in. Be constructive in the interview, and look the interviewer in the attention.

do you have friends with jobs? If so...
ask them if where they work is hiring. if so, ask them to put in a good word for you.
that's how i got my first job, and a referral from a friend is a sure fire way to get a job no matter how old you are.
