What's so great about driving, anyway?

Does anyone out there actually enjoy spending less time with your families because you commute 40 minutes each way in traffic? Do you like the negative health effects of never exercising? Take a look in the mirror, America. Not the funhouse mirror that makes you look skinny, the normal mirror. You are one big fat slob. You could use a good walk or bike ride every now and then!!

Update:

You're right, there IS a reason people do what they do. We have built our world around our cars, so now our lives are tied to our cars. What if we designed cities and towns for people instead of automobiles? Just a thought. BTW, I spent 3 months commuting by bike, it was GREAT. It was also great watching my truck sit in my driveway, not costing me money, not making the ridiculous traffic around here even worse, and not spewing pollution into the air.

Man, your right! I should totally quit my job and work at BK to provide for my family. No thats ridiculous..... I know I'll move closer to the city into a high crime area, and poor educational facilities! Yea that’s it. Why didn't I think if that before!

Come on man, pull your head out. There is a reason people do what they do. I don't like driving for 40 min to and from work but it is a lot better than the alternatives.

Actually I drive quite a bit, and enjoy it. As well as stay fit, usually I even drive to a park the play some basketball with friends, odd how that works out. Anyway I'm all for some sort of better fuel, or less pollutants. But to say no one enjoys driving might be a bit of a stretch, well maybe more than a bit.

We live in the country. So, we do not have the luxury of working within bicycling distance of home. Driving is the only way to get there without spending hours on a bike one way. We live in the country because we love it here. Not everyone who drives to work each day is a "big fat slob", that stereotype doesn't belong in your question.

Not actually if you take public transport it's going to cost you more time. So commuting 80mins per day isn't much. Spending time with your families isn't about quantities, it's quality. Even if you are driving, I bet if you want to exercise you could always take time off lunch or simply climb the stairs in the buildings or simply walk in the park. Driving doesn't means you will have no exercise!

being 16, i got my driver's license about 6 months ago. I can tell you one think, if you have to walk or get a ride EVERYWHERE you need to go it becomes a hassle.

Try it, ride your bike for a whole week. You never know how much you need a car untill you dont have one.

i agree when i first got my car i got in it to go everywhere even just down the street having it made me lazy i see it in all of my friends it's like a weakness long story short i wrecked it and it was one of the best things that happened to me simply because i don't drive anymore and iam better off for it

not sure. i walk or ride the bus. i have a car but it hasn't moved in two weeks.

but then, this was done by choice. i like to watch the facial expressions of the SUV drivers as they fill up their tanks.
