I have a DVD Drive D:/ when I check "My Computer" will that work to burn a DVD??

Will that work to burn DVD's
Here was my question for others....
I made a really cool picture movie with a soundtrack for a school project with Song Vegas Movie Studio and I want to burn it to a DVD using Sony DVD Architect so I can take it to class and watch on TV. I have a dell computer with a D:/ drive and an E:/ drive and I have some CD-R discs but I think I'm using the wrong ones. I have always been able to burn songs but burning DVD's is totally new to me. Is my E:/ drive not capable of burning a DVD and is there a portable CD burner that I can buy at Best buy and just hook it up to my computer? Also what type of disc should I use?
I hope someone can help because I have the whole project done and I just need to burn the DVD. I have enough money to buy a portable DVD burner if it's available but I don't have the time to take my computer somewhere to have another drive built in you know.
Please help! I would so much appreciate it!!
Thank you!!

If your system is only a DVD-rom as in it can only read DVDs then you cannot write a DVD,since yours says DVD drive.and also if SONY dvd architect came default with your system then it implies that you should be able to burn DVDs.
Enjoy your class project.

first of all, if you have enough money to buy a portable dvd burner then you have time to install a burner. it's easy.
And to answer your question simply... is it a burner or not? only you can look to see if it is or not. it's like you just asked us if your shirt is blue or red... you tell me.

Happy colored marbles that are rolling in my head,
I put 'em back in the jacket of the one I love.
If you want to burn a DVD, you need to go and buy burnable DVD's. You can't turn a CD-R into a DVD. You also need to have a drive that is capable of burning DVD's, it will say on the drive itself if it is able to.
If you do not have a DVD burner in your computer, then your best bet would be to borrow an external drive.

Did you format the the CD? Secondly.. your computer has a DVD opening.. does it have a CD opening.. you know.. you push a little button and it opens and you put your CD in? You indicated that it did not.. Mine has both and I am surprised that YOU do not have both.. Are you sure? If yours says DVD.. then you cannot use it for a CD
