What aspects of the Libertarian platform do you disagree with?

I see people complaining about high taxes, government intrusion into their personal life, pointless wars, corporate welfare, social welfare, and a host of other things. Many people voted for democrats in the last election hoping for change, but nothing seems to be working. So isn't a possible solution to embrace a party that's neither conservative nor liberal, democrat nor republican? Many seem extremely heisitant to do so, and I'm curious as to why. What aspects of the Libertarian platform do you disagree with? Why wouldn't you vote for a Libertarian candidate if given the option?

I'm actually a card-carrying member of the Libertarian party, but I fear that the wholesale privatization they advocate would lead to some of the issues Russia experienced with the oligarchs. There has to be a balance, but in general I still agree that we could cut half the federal government easily and that we should stop our incessant foreign interventionism.

Your the one that is mis-directed, nobody can be trusted under representative government no matter what name for a party is dreamed up! For whom ever shows up as a lawmaker will fall prey to the bribery of the puppet-masters lobbyist! Thus representative government must be ended! "Unlike now" All levels of government should be well managed employee's subject to firing at will NO elections! Final up or down vote goes to the legal citizen majority of/by/for the people! What is this crap you talk about nobody can get anything done under this method! The 110th congress has NOT passed 1 bill since the opening of this session! People don't get involved cause they don't trust or believe in the current structure with accurate reasoning! I say what ever party wants to compete under this structure calling themselves any name has NOT learned where or how all the corruption is taking place say nothing about a real solution in fixing our society to regain #1 status. P.S. if there is any bribing going on it should be through the people by gov't & business trying to influence the public with excellant service & goods you know opposite of what exist NOW! Role reversal long over due pal.

The only thing that I strongly disagree with is the stand on abortion.

Other than that, I think that the Libertarian platform is closest to my personal beliefs. However, I want my vote to count, so I align myself with the Republican party. Unfortunately, a vote for Libertarian ideals usually turns out to be a vote for the Democrat's platform.

The best answer to Libertarianism I ever saw was on Bill Maher a few years back. A Libertarian candidate said, "People should do whatever they feel like doing!" and one of the other guests replied, "I feel like driving on the left side of the road!" So obviously complete freedom to do whatever we like doesn't work, since a certain amount of law is necessary for society to function on a basic level. I think the problem is not that we don't have enough freedoms in this country -- we are the freest country in the history of the world -- but that two many people feel disconnected from the current political order, and don't feel they have a say in the laws being made. I do feel that this country is ripe for the rise of new political parties, but not necessarily the Libertarians.
