What causes your heart to beat faster after riding a roller coaster? Is it nerve, speed, gravity, or what?

I have been riding coasters since I was 10 years old. Now I'm in my 40's and I noticed that I'm more scared to go on any steel coasters. I didn't have any problem with wooden coasters. Why is that?

adrenalin. Your body thinks you are falling so it gets scared in a way, and you get that rush.

Also my mom used to LOVE roller coasters when I was younger. She would go on all of them with me! After he hit about her mid 40's she got completely scared of them. She says she grew out of them. lol

Adrenalin answers your first question. I am also in my 40's and prefer the newer coasters. They are smoother, plus they go upside down. Perhaps that is what bothers you, going upside down in loops.
