If your hard drive is full, to gain space you need to remove at least 1 Gb if you can. You can do that by getting a 1-2Gb thumb drive or removable storage drive and offloading stuff you no longer use or don't use regularly. You won't gain enough by disk compression to do you any good.

First choice is to get a bigger drive. Second would be to use XPs disk compression. Go to Start/Help and Support/search for "compress". Follow the directions for compressing.
You can also do a disk cleanup to get rid of unneeded files.

To compress files individually, right click on the file--then click properties--on the General page-click advanced--check the box that says" compress files to save disk space". I had a problem with Disk Cleanup randomly compressing files I had not used in a specified period of time. Especially my "anti malicious" software. You can uncompress indiv. files by unchecking the above box in advanced.

Cick on the folder with a right mouse button, select Properties, Advanced, Set check "Compress contents to save disk space"

Yes, click on my computer , right click on drive C: then property at the bottom there is a little box put a check on it. it says compress save space or some thing like that, but remember always when you compress the drive you gain space but that will slow your computer a little.
