Aurangzeb was the last strong ruler of the Mughal empire. As his reign was deteriorating, many princes and chiefs etc were gaining control over their own states. Chattrapati Shivagi was one such leader who started gaining control over Maharashtra. He had a bitter fight with Aurangzeb. There are many tales of Shivagi defeating Aurangzeb with his wit when Aurangzeb tried to fool him. He gradually gained respect even in the Mughal empire. He was important in the freedom struggle against the Mughal empire. He was undefeatable by the Mughals.
