How long would it take to lose 40lbs?

I'm trying to lose 40lbs and I want to know realistically how long would it take to lose 40lbs. I know it depends on the type of diet and type of excersise. But just on an average answer how long would it take? Average meaning a casual diet with moderate activity(like a light plan) vs a really strict diet with a really strict excersise plan. So if anyone has an idea please let me know it will help me get an aproximent answer so that way I can set a goal. Much thanks to all that can help!!

Well of course it depends on your age and your activity level and diet and all that... In general younger people have an easier time of it ... 20 somethings lose faster than 40 somethings ...

A gradual weight loss is the safest a few pounds a week...2 or 3 ... so about 3 or 4 months... Now remember everyone hits plateaus when losing weight. most people will drop the first 10 or 15 pretty fast once they get to a certain level of activity and then just flatten out... when that happens you have to step it up some how... which is ok because by then you'll be stronger and more in shape and be able to kick your work outs up a notch or two. I've heard many people say that just working out 5 times a week for 20 minutes of Hard cardio is enough to get them goin and loosing weight... Good luck to you!!!

I was also like Key, lost 30 lbs in about 3 months by mostly cutting out unneccesary foods. I'm not any where near a fitness/dieting expert, but you may not notice a change because you see yourself everyday. Why not take a picture of yourself each week, or write down your measurements/weight every couple weeks. Also, if you're doing weight lifting, you may be replacing your fat with your muscle you're gaining (if you're doing heavy lifting) - which may account for not having a dramatic dip in weight loss. Don't take that to mean cutting out weights, i only mention this as a possible indicator for not having a dramatic result. Weight loss and excersize are never dramatic like you see on TV. I wouldn't expect to lose more than 3 or 4 pounds a week. You'll probably notice your energy level increasing first, and then other people will notice, and eventually you will. Good Luck!

anywhere from 4 months to 8 months probably.

If you workout you will see faster results. I have a guy friend who lost 60 lbs in 6 months using Leslie Sansome "Walk Away The Pounds" Daily and he cut down on how much he ate.

I have lost 30 lbs in six months. I workout a good pit, but I still eat what I want and still eat a lot of sweets.

it is healthy to lose 1-2 pounds for every week

Safe, sustainable weight loss is about 1-2 pounds per week, so approx 30 weeks, or 7 1/2 months.
